Artist’s background

Teresa was born and raised in Hong Kong and later studied in US for her University.

She has been in legal and compliance field in international banking for years. She has experimented the free flow art training project in the Fridge Club prior to her departure in Hong Kong.

She has travelled to lots of the Asian countries for work before resuming her passion in painting during the Covid 19. Painting is the lost passion that Teresa reconnects to the inner self (which she always named it as ‘Little Girl’.

Teresa is a self-taught, expressionist artist, whose creative production revolves around classic figurative painting which are full of sensual energy. Chinese artist,Teresa Chan, uses oil paint to speak the thoughts which composites of various psychological states of mind in different ways. For her, art is the only language through which she can express her most true and honest self. Teresa ‘s painting is a fine mixture of emotional and atmospheric which represents most of the realistic representation of her dreams. Her dreamlike world finds light – fragile, sensual yet beautiful – in the depths of darkness, harmonizing the inner and the outer, the solid and the surreal. Most heavily influenced by the aesthetic beauty of human contour, Teresa likes mixing sensual and beauty in her figurative painting . She asserts that art’s potential is not just to create, but to reflect the most of human nature which could be nihilistic or narcissistic . The juxtapositions and twisted figures in her artworks is the essence of mind illusion. She describes her work as ‘contemporary expressionist’ artist with a twist of sensual emotions.

Teresa is also a devoted contemporary dancer who she sees art in pure form should be unconventional with a combination of techniques expressed in a fluid manner.

CuratorS

CuratorS is Teresa's different styles of paintings which could be perceived as unique and yet unified as if the paintings are from various artists but selected by one curator.  Teresa's paintings of versatile styles were the inspiration behind Teresa's daily life and routines which is a reflection in her paintings. In these circular works, the female figure is more dominant, with the geometric confines of the court providing a perspectival grid that is accentuated by Teresa's passionate  brushstrokes. Absorbed in the moment, the pared-back backgrounds draw the viewer in, inviting them to engage with her personally.

In the series of paintings, Teresa explores the organic chaos of juxtaposed blooms for the first time. At double life-size, the works create an extraordinary explosion of color and detail. Like the figures in Teresa’s paintings, these images  are immortal – forever sensuous, opulent and alive. To experience one of Teresa’s works is to not only look but touch and understand the texture of the surface and how the painting is constructed, layer by layer. The exceptionally high finish of the paintings creates an altogether more vivid experience for the viewer, with the near-flawless surface of the works belying the countless of hours that go into creating each piece.

Artistic style - Classic Pop

Pop psychology approaches are often characterized by an emphasis on personal feelings, the latest trends in popular culture, and self-help techniques. These approaches may not be scientifically supported or researched but have become popular with people who want to improve their mental well-being. to speak the thoughts which composites of various psychological states of mind in different ways. , Art is the only language through which one can express their most true and honest self. Artistic style - Beyond

I believe Art is a therapy and particularly can be connected to Cgnitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps people learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior and emotions.1 Cognitive behavioral therapy combines cognitive therapy with behavior therapy by identifying maladaptive patterns of thinking, emotional responses, or behaviors and replacing them with more desirable patterns.2 Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on changing the automatic negative thoughts that can contribute to and worsen our emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. These spontaneous negative thoughts also have a detrimental influence on our mood. Through CBT, faulty thoughts are identified, challenged, and replaced with more objective, realistic thoughts.
